"Preservation through Education"
The Southwest, including Southern Nevada, has a significant amount of Native American Petroglyph / Rock Art Sites. The main focus of this web site will be on the rock art of Southern Nevada which extends back 1500 years or more, and was typically created by either the Paiute, Shoshone, Chemehuevi, or the Anasazi people. Our goals for this web site are twofold: first, to be a guide or learning tool for the beginner, as well as an instrument for the seasoned rock art researcher; and second, to provide visual access to a concentrated amount of petroglyphs from one specific region – Southern Nevada. Our beliefs are that by educating people to the historical significance of the rock art, people will be more inclined to respect, and preserve, the sites for the enjoyment of everyone for a long, long time.Southern Nevada Area MapFrom time to time we get inquiries (usually from researchers) as to what we consider to be "Southern Nevada". For clarification, click anywhere within this text to view a map showing the area's boundaries. |
